There are few things I would list as obsessions (or at the least things I am enamored with) in my life: coffee, glitter polish, statement earrings, and Oscar de la Renta (just check my Instagram ). And few things tend to make this short but fabulous list (because if they weren't fabulous why would they be on my list?)... that is, until I discovered shopbando.com.
The sparkles, the bows, the sheer feminine splendor of hair, shoe (yes shoe), and other accessories keeps me scrolling repeatedly through each page. These are the kind of accessories that you collect (like my aforementioned earrings). They are also the kind that make your style unique... Surely not every girl is walking around with this insane sparkly glitter bobbi in (on???) her locks.
So, do me a favor and check out all of the pretty bobbles via my new fave obsession!

Fashion Art Accessories
I have talked about this lovely lady's amazing artwork several times before, but I am so excited about the fact that her fashion art can now be mine {and yours of course} in a variety of mediums and I must share.
As I was searching the internet for hours on end for the perfect iPhone 5 cover it hit me, "Tanina!!!" the beau looked at me with a bit of concern, but after I explained he totally understood.
Tanina Jackson turns her fashion art into the most stylish of accessories (she does notebooks, totes, and makeup bags too), and now I am the owner of my very own Babe&Butter piece a la my iPhone (actually this is my 2nd, I have a makeup bag).
The best part about ordering my case? I got to choose which ever artwork I wanted. I chose "Caked Up" because I love the juxtaposition of a 'fashionista' digging into a cake, with her hands no less. It is a great reminder not to take fashion too seriously.

I Heart Wool
Wool. Just looking at the word may conjure memories of your mom forcing you to wear that dreaded scratchy winter wool coat. Well, that is not the wool I'm talking about today, rather I want to introduce you to Merino wool: soft, comfortable, natural, renewable, and fine. Not only is it not scratchy, it is not restricted to winter coats, some of our favorite designers use this wool in their RTW collections each season. Just this past February Alexander Wang used Merino wool elements in 20 of his pieces for the Fall 2012 RTW collection.
So what's all this talk about wool? Well, not only does Merino wool show up on the tall beauties of fashion week, but now it can show up on you, thanks to the Wrapped in Merino campaign.
The Woolmark Company has created a never-ending virtual wool scarf, collaboratively designed by you... and me (check it out).
Head on over to the Wrapped in Merino microsite and create your part of the scarf... AND you'll be automatically entered to win one of eight fashion prizes packs, including Net-A-Porter vouchers and even your very own Merino wool scarf! (If I win I bet you know what I'll be buying... gosh I love Net-A-Porter!).
When you're done creating your part of the scarf leave a comment so I can see your FABulous designs!
You can also connect with the Wrapped in Merino community via Twitter @welovewool and Facebook

Wish List Update
Every once in awhile (okay like always) I get this itch to shop... Just last night my mom and I went to the grocery store and found scarves--yes grocery store scarves. When I'm not hitting up the $3.29 scarves, I'm usually window shopping creating the perfect wardrobe in my head... or on my computer.
So, I wanted to share my most recent wish list with you guys.
**Note this is a serious WISH list some of these things I probably won't be able to afford for another 10 years if ever ;) **
This Milly tote makes me so happy! The color is amazing and I like the kind of preppy appeal it has.

Hello, fun feathers! And apparently I love Milly a whole lot more than I knew.

I might actually be able to afford this one... Ted Baker makes an adorable bow cuff bracelet. I love the acrylic white and gold accent.

I kind of want this entire outfit, but I'm really focusing on the Burberry London shirt here. Plaid is among my favorite and I think a chocolate brown and navy duo is perfection.
I am a huge fan of French Connection and if i could I would own just about every dress, but alas that would be too many to subject you, my lovely readers, to... Instead I'll let you drool over this beauty: The Sunspark.

R.O.I. Designer Eyewear - Karen Kane
A few weeks ago I was invited to the Eyewear by R.O.I. headquarters to meet with John Alofs, founder and C.E.O., to talk about the Karen Kane eyewear collection. As you know from a recent post, I wear glasses, and as a fashion blogger and consumer it is important for me that my eyewear is as equally fashionable as my wardrobe. So when I was offered the opportunity to find out more about the eyewear collection of one of my favorite clothing brands, I could not help but be excited about discovering just how these two seemingly incongruous worlds come together.

John Alofs founded R.O.I., which designs, manufacturs, and distributes eyeglass frames and sunglasses, 26 years ago because according to him, "I couldn't play shortstop for the Yankees." Athletic dreams aside, Mr. Alofs moved to Arizona after completing optical school in Buffalo and started building the company in 1985--a company that went from selling 15,000 frames in its first year of business to selling well over a million frames last year.
You may be thinking that selling a million frames just means that a lot of people can't see, but I'm sure you'll be as surprised as I was to find out just how much those million frames have to do with fashion. For starters R.O.I. has a creative director whose sole job is to design all of the collections. To accomplish this the creative director works with the creative director of each of the R.O.I. brands {Bulova, Karen Kane, Richard Taylor, B.U.M., Colours by Alexander Julian, and Wittnauer}. In the case of the Karen Kane collection the creative director works directly with Karen herself {lucky lady}. Mr. Alofs explains how the process works, "We work off of their seasonal releases--they say here is the color palette we're going for, here's the patterns we're working with. They work with my creative director and the whole process takes 8 or 9 months from the time we start to the time we actually release the product to the market."
As if you aren't already impressed by the fact that the creative director gets to work one on one with the likes of Karen Kane, she also happened to be in attendance at New York Fashion Week--sending back emails about color, accessory, and material trends as seen on the runways. Mr. Alofs understands the importance of fashion, "Eyewear is a fashion statement. We [the creative director] are at Fashion Week in New York right now, we have to be very involved with fashion. We know exactly what’s happening; how its happening. We spend a lot of time going to trade shows in Milan. We're in Hong Kong, China three to four times a year . We have to monitor, because you can’t be behind… Eyewear is a fashion accessory, not just sunwear, eyewear itself is very much a fashion accessory."
When Fashion Meets Eyewear - Karen Kane
I could attempt to paraphrase the story of how the Karen Kane eyewear collection came to be, but I think that Mr. Alofs does a much better job:
"We were looking for a women's brand, a specific women’s brand…We wanted something that Americans--knew it was a U.S. American brand. And so a licensing company that we've used before out of New York gave us a list of people … I passed it around to our sales people and some of our customers, our big customers, and the one that everyone seemed to have the most interest in was Karen Kane. Then the licensing company approached Karen and Lonnie, because we were the first licensed brand, eyewear--first category. So it was unique, we actually had to go talk to them and say what we do and how we do it, and they couldn’t have been nicer. It was a new process for them because everything they sell they make, everything that has their name, they produce."

| Yes it says "Eyewear by R.O.I. Welcomes Kristianne Young" ... I was excited LOL! |

**Side Note- Prior to our "official" interview Mr. Alofs and I shared a mutual appreciation for how kind and down to earth the Kane family is.**
The R.O.I. design team works with Karen by mirroring what she is currently doing in her clothing collections, "We try to incorporate some of her fabric onto a temple, onto a sunglass design." He then tells me I must visit their operation in L.A. {an experience I would no doubt love to have} where they do the producing, designing, and shipping because it's amazing and because, "Karen, you start talking to her and the next thing you know she's drawing on a piece of paper and tacks it up on the wall--she's had an inspiration. She's extraordinary!"
Karen Kane eyewear is currently in 2,000 stores, and I had the opportunity to check out the collection {plus those that have yet to be released...sorry no pics of those you'll just have to wait and see} first hand at the R.O.I. headquarters.

Seeing that I am also an avid sunglasses collector, I was beyond excited when Mr. Alofs handed me this beautiful case with my very own pair of Karen Kane Glorious Lilly sunnies!
Thank you again John Alofs and Marcela Johnson for this great opportunity!

I’m one of those girls that dislike wearing contacts; at the
same time I’m not as good about wearing my glasses,
as I should be. I only need them for seeing far {aka near sided} so I wear
them when seeing is an absolute must, you know like during class and while
driving at night so I can see where I am going.
However, seeing as wearing eyeglasses is inevitable in a myriad of situations I like to at
least have a stylish pair… or three. Now, I know what you are thinking, that
buying glasses is expensive.
![]() |
| iSee 727 Brown.. How absolutely cute are these?! |
Well ladies {and gents} I have great news for you, buying
your eyeglasses online is a great
and inexpensive way to ensure that you’ll have all the stylish options you need
for any outfit. Think Giorgio Armani, Lacoste, Calvin Klein, Kenneth Cole and
the list goes on.

When GlassesUSA.com
contacted me about doing a blog about their website, I wasn’t too sure how
exactly purchasing a pair of glasses online would work. I mean, to me glasses
are like clothes: you have to try them on and a lot of them. However, my mind
was changed when I learned that they have a nifty feature called the ‘Try-It
Mirror,’ a virtual way to try on glasses. Here is me with a pair of glasses I
really like:
Not only can you buy glasses from them, but you can also purchase prescription sunglasses, which
is great for people like me who basically live in their sunnies.
GalassesUSA.com already has very reasonably priced eyewear,
but they were kind enough to give Fashion Route readers a 10% discount off any
order of prescription glasses when using the code: Blog10
Have fun and send me some pictures in your favorite glasses!

Phoenix Fashion Artist- Tanina Jackson
On Friday morning, I had the honor to meet and interview local Fashion Artist, Tanina Jackson. We started our morning chat with some coffee, {well I did...she favors a Vanilla Bean Frapp} and then got right to it!
As I walked into her condo-turned-studio I was greeted by Tanina, dozens of paintings on walls and easels, and another young lady sitting at a desk working on a computer. I soon learned that there are currently three businesses being run out of the studio: Kid Kandy custom bead necklaces, life coaching {the young lady at the desk is Masha Tikhonova a life coach!}, and Babe & Butter which is Tanina's artwork.
Before I continue, let me tell you how this whole meeting came about.... A friend of mine shared one of Tanina's pieces on her Facebook page and I was immediately a fan. After a few clicks I ended up on the Babe & Butter website and knew I had to meet the person behind these paintings {not to mention I NEEDED to get my hands on one of her cosmetic bags}. I sent Tanina an email about setting up an interview and she was kind of enough to let me ask all the questions I wanted {my recording alone was 40 minutes!}.
Okay so back to Tanina, she grew up in Mesa and attended ASU where she earned a degree in Communications. After she graduated she attended fashion design school in Dubai for a few months. With a degree in communications and some fashion design experience under her belt, I had to ask, "Why art?" She tells me that she started to learn how to paint when she was 13 from two artists in Mesa, Lloyd and Tom, "I was the youngest person in the class. I was 13 and most of the people in class were 60, 70, 80." When she graduated from ASU it hit her that she had to decide what she was going to do and she did, "I"m going to be an artist."
Painting comes naturally to Tanina, {the picture above is her first painting...} and she began to sell her paintings almost immediately. Though she is not quite as convinced of her natural talent as I am, "I have painted a lot, I have painted hundreds of pictures--I don't know what determines skill and talent." Her humble attitude toward her talent, skill, and artwork, make me an even bigger fan.
Why Fashion and Art? ... Fashion Art
"I fell in love with art first and then when I got a little bit older I fell in love with fashion. My early years of school [high school] I would get Elle and Vogue and read every single word from front to back. I had notebooks and notebooks of pictures cut out. And I just fell in love with it. I think it's one of our greatest forms of expression."
Tanina's art is unique, there is no question about that, but she sees what she does as another form of fashion just with a different result--a painting instead of a garment. "I don’t look at it as very separate. Well when I studied fashion design and we would come up with inspiration boards, and kind of work out the colors for that season and do our sketching… I kind of looked at it as a very similar thing."
Eventually Tanina does want to combine her two passions by collaborating with a high-end designer on handbags--she doing the artwork and they {read: Dior} doing the bag designs. Until that day {which I am 100% convinced will come soon} she is enjoying her life, "My life is pretty dreamy," she says of her days, which start at 2 or 3 in the afternoon returning emails, doing some work on Facebook, blogging {read the Babe & Butter blog here}, and then painting for 4 to 7 hours in the evening, sometimes till 8 o'clock in the morning. "I just like painting at night. For me, that's my ideal schedule."
Defining Her Work:
Tanina's artwork is painted entirely from oil paints and she almost only paints on canvas. All of her work is from photographs--she gets a vision and then actually makes it happen in a photograph before painting it. As far as what she classifies her artwork as, she says she really doesn't try to classify it beyond "Fashion Art."
Babe&Butter reflects the progress women have made. "Admirable women today explore their interests wholeheartedly. They don't dress to impress, they dress to express and in many ways self-expression allows women to be who they are not what they are suppose to be" -Tanina Jackson
BLOGGER Q&A TIME...
Fave designer/brand? Dior “I love their colors and I think that they do some, they take a lot of risks in the stuff they put out.”
Favorite stores? Anthropologie, Urban, anywhere...“I really enjoy shopping. I think-- put me in a thrift store and I’ll have fun.”
Consider yourself a "blogger"? “Yeah I kind of, I wish I could blog more. I love having a blog, I think we are really lucky that we live in a society where we are able to express our ideas like that and share it with other people."
Why Babe & Butter? "The inspiration for the name of my studio actually came from a Lil Wayne song. I love hip hop and it is a huge influence influence on me.The song is a love song. The line goes 'I remember we would sit at home all day/you call me butter, I call you babe. I toyed around with Butter&Babe and Babe&Butter and decided to go with Babe&Butter. No one expects that's where it came from, but it did, and I love it."
Greatest moment as an artist? When she found out she got the Kiosk {Tempe Market Place} & "I saw a bag at a club on a girl I didn’t know. That was special. It was a total different feeling I don’t even know how to describe it. Being recognized for my artwork from people I don’t know. When you make art it is revealing of your soul and to put it out and people like it... that’s awesome."
To see and purchase her artwork, invite Tanina to paint live at an event, or just to tell her how awesome her work is please visit her at:

Thanks to my blogger friend Angela I have a picture of what I wore to the Rioux Leroux Show. Be sure to check out her blog Forward Fashion Diary for a detailed recap of the show and the collections!

Sheer Polka Dot Tights - Banana Republic
Shoes - Kenneth Cole Reaction

I debated on whether or not to wear all black but in the end I figured my polka dots would kind of break it up... plus I wore my favorite red coat!

Purse - Zara
Nails - OPI {I can't find the name anywhere on the bottle!}

Event Worthy Looks
Last night I attended a local fashion event {I'll have a post up later today} and I was totally the blogger in heels. I know that the smart thing is to wear a semi-casual look with flats, but I just can't bring myself to look so-so if everyone else gets to look amazing...I definitely wore a dress and heels and stood with the rest of the "photogs" pleated skirt and all! {with my fashionable friend Angela}
Beside the fact that I pretty much have to limp-walk back to the car at the end of the night, the only other problem I see about my determination to dress up for events is that I quickly run out of outfits! So I've started an event outfit wish list ... what do you think of my choices so far?
RAINBOW LUREX CROSS BACK DRESS BY DRESS UP TOPSHOP
I love the sparkle, the pattern, the bow, and the colors. I realize that this is on the extreme Holiday outfit side, but I still like it.
Silk blouse and sequined top zara
This is one case that I think I would actually wear flats, the luxe look of silk combined with the eye catching gold sequins is more than enough snazz for one outfit!
free people chevron sweater dress macy's
I've been eyeing this Free People dress for awhile now; it would like great with tights or jeans.
Crystal clutch bcbg
Can you believe it, I don't have a clutch! I think this one is just absolutely gorgeous.

Christmas List - The Little Things
There are always those random things that you know you need to get, but you don't, because there are more important things you need to spend your money on. For instance paying your rent, buying dog food, paying someone to fix your car... you know the fun stuff.
So I've decided this year I want the little things for Christmas!

Get Organized
I'm an organizer by nature, I make checklists, I line everything up according to height and in the case of books by genre, my closet is divided in to shirts, tanks, dress, outwear, jeans, and I like the icons on my computer to be organized by size. So you get the idea, I just really like organization. So when time comes for me to get new office supplies or accessories my little heart is filled with joy.
Whether you are starting a new school year, your first internship, or maybe even a new job here are some fashionable ways to get organized.
